Sprawling out on the Hamilton Wharf, the Eat Street Markets are a container-tastic event with delicious food, live music and a bustling vibe.
The smell of the markets is a marvellous, eclectic mix of every cuisine imaginable, being dished out over counters and through the side windows of trailers. Greek, Thai, Mexican, Italian, French...the list is endless. Plenty of coffee and sweet treats are available if you're not ready to commit to a whole meal, or you can grab a cider and enjoy the live music!
I arrived at around 7, paid my $2.50 entry fee at the gate and allowed myself to be swept along by the jostling crowds.
I personally indulged in Greek yiros with haloumi cheese (yum!), icy cold cider and some incredibly moreish honey puffs from the Honey Puff Kings!
Vintage dresses and printed T-shirts are laid out next to towering piles of secondhand books, handmade cosmetics and 'cronuts' (half croissant, half donut). Handmade cards and jewellery, French crepes, upcycled clocks made out of old records - Eat Street Markets has it all!
The verdict? Certainly worth doing once but a long way to come from the city, especially if you are taking public transport. Go for the experience and for the wonderful vibe, and make sure you allow enough time for a few hours of wandering - you'll need it!
