Day 5 - Crafty Christmas gifts

My family has always been crafty - my grandmother taught me to knit and crochet, and my mum can sew everything from a button to a ball gown.

Yarn heaven in Paddington. All kinds of colours and textures from a variety of brands, including Cascade and a personal favourite of mine, Hedgehog Fibres. Knitch also run workshops in crochet, knitting, felting and dyeing, as well as regular crochet-along gatherings each week.

Right next to the Corner Store Cafe in Toowong, Peppermint Stitches has an incredible range of fabrics and kits (including this gorgeous solar system quilt!). The staff are lovely, and happy to help you put fabrics together, or even recommend colour combinations or techniques if you're a beginner, or not sure what you're looking for.

It's a fair hike from Brisbane to Highfields, but if you have a car and a spare afternoon The Quilter's Angel is a crafty dream. I've attended their Stitcher's Dream Day Out for the past two years with my mum. They stock Cosmo and Cottage Garden threads and have a big and beautiful selection of fabrics, patterns and kits, including several Block of the Month programs. Gift vouchers are available too, and can be used at the online store.
