Day 4: Made by Hand

We all know that Brisbane is brimming with talented makers and creators, and they are the people to talk to about a truly unique gift. Many of them have stalls at local markets leading up to Christmas if you like to buy in person (follow their Insta/Facebook to know when). If you want custom/commission work, make sure you get onto it ASAP as a lot of artists have Christmas cut-offs coming up soon!

Laura from 2 Little Houses is an architect, and creates wonderfully precise line drawings of little houses and architecture in Brisbane. Prints are available from her online store, but she also takes commissions – an immortalisation of your childhood home, or pre-and-post renovation, would certainly make a special gift. Purchase through her Big Cartel, or contact her through the website.

Nicole from Yippy Whippy creates fun and colourful designs to help you release your inner child (happy pupper earrings, anyone?) I love her cute jewellery, and each pair of earrings is handmade. She also creates prints, apparel, pins and patches, and her lovely things can be purchased from her online store or through one of her Brisbane stockists.

Based in Brisbane’s northernmost suburb, Brighton, Michael and Sandra from Grey & Bird create incredible (and very affordable) ink drawings, watercolours, and gouache paintings as well as a variety of other handmade items including upcycled denim vases and clay bird boxes. I love that a lot of their work is available in handmade frames made from reclaimed timber – gorgeous! Purchase via Etsy or say hello at one of their upcoming markets.

With otherworldly imagery and exquisitely detailed illustrations, Vannah also creates awesome jewellery and stickers featuring her work. Her online shop has reopened just in time for Christmas, chcek it out!
