Backstreet Christmas Day 11: Season tickets and subscriptions

One of my favourite types of gifts to receive is an experience, or a subscription – Brisbane has some incredible things to see and do, so see below for some season tickets and subscription packages to keep giving all year long.

Queensland Museum & Science Centre
A great gift for adventurous minds young or old – annual membership entitles holders to unlimited entry to SparkLab and Sciencecentre for 12 months, discounts at the Museum shop and café, discounted tickets to selected Museum events and exhibitions, and access to the Museum research library. Members can also gain free general admission to partner museums in Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Melbourne. Check their website for details of 2019 exhibits and to purchase a membership.

QAGOMA
For the budding (or established) artist in your life, annual membership to QAGOMA grants access to advanced notice of upcoming exhibitions, after-hours viewing opportunities, and discounts on exhibition tickets, shopping and dining. Plus, a free exhibition ticket when you join or renew! See their website for more details on how to join.

Queensland Theatre
Queensland’s state theatre company keeps kicking goals and their 2019 season is a Season of Dreamers, from ancient classics to modern staples and brand new Australian works. Read my full season breakdown, or visit the company’s website for ticketing and further information.

Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble
Next year, QSE will present Henry IV Part I as well as their Shakespeare Beyond projects including the Shakespeare Prison Project and Relaxed Performances, training and workshops, and Shakespeare’s Shorts. In April, QSE will also perform Dare to Share, showcasing scenes, speeches, and techniques from the company’s training. Later in the year, QSE will once again present a brand new Australian work in some form, as the company has committed to doing for the past few years. La Boite Theatre Company
La Boite open their year with another season of the highly successful Single Asian Female, written by Michelle Law, and close it with Christmas Actually, which made its debut this festive season starring Naomi Price. In between, La Boite will present a reworking of Rome & Juliet in collaboration with QUT Creative Industries, a new work from Steven Oliver From Darkness, offsite performances Open Homes and Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts in addition to their annual HWY festival of new and in-progress workshop. Savoyards Musical Theatre Company
The most professional amateur theatre company I’ve ever seen, Savoyards are based out of Wynnum. Last year I saw their impressive seasons of Les Misérables and Chicago – in 2019 they will bring Oklahoma and The Boy From Oz to the Iona Performing Arts Centre. Find ticketing and more information on their website.

Queensland Symphony Orchestra
QSO have a variety of subscription packages, depending on what you are interested in. Their 2019 focus is ‘Orchestra for Everyone’ and will feature Australian music, old classics, new favourites, and a diverse range of instrumental soloists.
