Locally made gifts and goodies for the children in your family, whether they be two-legged, four-legged, or otherwise!
I love love love these ‘aspirational dolls with inspirational careers’ – there are surgeons, scuba divers, web designers, astronauts, architects, police officers, teachers…Most dolls come in two sizes and two skin tone variations. OK! Dolls was started by Kim when she couldn’t find a suitably empowering and durable doll for her young daughter. The dolls are designed and handmade in Brisbane, the illustrations are sublimation printed (water-based inks, no waste water, and no fading or cracking like traditional screen printing), and the filling of the dolls is made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles that have been collected, sterilised, and shredded in Australia. You can purchase from the online store with free delivery (but you’ll need the express option to get them in time for Christmas). The website also has lots of cool DIY projects for kids, so if you’re looking for holiday activities take a look!
Works at Play
A small family business based in Brisbane, Works at Play was started by Early Childhood Teacher and mum of 3 Melissa, who is passionate about children learning through play and started building play furniture in 2014. Similar to Kim and OK! Dolls, Melissa couldn’t find the simple, naturally made, toddler-sized toys she wanted, so she began to make her own. Check out the website to read more about the ethos behind the toys, and to shop the range of products.
